This is the image I’ve dreamed of capturing for years! A common loon chick riding on its parent’s back. While observing them, I noticed they only hunt on one side of the pond, which luckily happens to be the best side for sunrise.
Unfortunately, the surrounding mountains usually block the early light, making the ideal window for shooting incredibly short. But this morning, everything aligned perfectly. Just as the sun crested the mountains, the chick, tired from feeding, hopped onto its parent’s back. The wind had just started to pick up, making it tricky to keep them in frame, but thankfully, I came away with the shot I’ve been hoping for all this time!
