"Spotlight" Barred Owl Lustre Paper Wall Art From Shelburne, Vermont

from $55.00

The spring I graduated from college, I befriended a local Barred Owl I nicknamed Ricky Bobby. I would sit outside with him almost every day, and because of this time commitment, I earned special viewing privileges. Ricky Bobby didn’t mind how close I got or how much noise I made, as long as I didn’t interfere with his hunting (I was always as quiet and as careful possible).

Still, close proximity doesn’t automatically make for a good image—light is far more important, and the dense forest he called home let very little through. To make matters trickier, Ricky Bobby rarely ventured near its edge. But on this particular day, he flew close to the edge of the forest and landed along the border of a power-line clearing. Had anyone else approached, he likely would have retreated into the safety of the trees, but he allowed me to walk into the strip. He perched there for hours, and toward the end of the day, the sun broke perfectly through the tree line on the opposite side, casting a warm spotlight right on him.

Printed on Lustre paper and is printed in-house using the highest quality paper and ink to ensure the highest quality product! All prints are signed, titled, matted, and can be framed!
